The Hook

I (that is, incorrigible scribbler JM Francheteau) have decided to undertake a series of irregularly-scheduled write-ups in which I examine a pop single which I consider to be, essentially, perfect. The point of this exercise to celebrate a form which I don’t think gets enough respect from certain musical snobs, so expect a real potpourri of canonical classics and reconsidered refuse. I’m going to be looking at the “classic” pop single format which is typically from 2-4:30 in length (though I don’t plan on being too hard on this one), and I’ll be taking the broad definition of pop which can include anything from hip-hop to American Songbook standards. Anyhoo, without further ado…
